Faithful Ambition

Thought for the day: Expect greta things from God, attempt great things for God. – William Carey

Ecclesiastes 9

” Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all you might …..” ( Ecclesiastes 9:10)

We all have ambitions and dreams. Whether it is to become the next Idol or to be a  famous celebrity. There is nothing wrong with having dreams, or even working to achieve those dreams, but it is the how that mattes.

There are a lot of people out there that is willing to change who they are in order to change their dream. I know a girl who always wanted to be a famous actress. There was only one little problem, acting was not really in her blood. She did not have any real talent for the profession. No matter how hard she tried, for some reason she always ended up not getting the lead.

Determine that she will succeed, she went to see the producer of one off the plays. She had sex with him, he in return gave her the lead in the play, but we all knew  she got it because she was willing to change to reach her ambition in life. The sad thing is her ambition and drive did not change her into a famous actress, unfortunately it changed her into a cheap slut.

God gave us all different talents in life, he also gave us dreams, and the ambitions to reach those dream, but sometimes our dreams are not necessarily what God has planned for us.

God did not create robots he gave us free will to make our own decisions in life, if we trust Him and ask Him to help us achieve our goals, and we accept the times that we don’t succeed with grace. God will help us to achieve our full potential without having to sacrifice who we are. When you honor God in everything you do He will make you dreams come true, greater and better than what you ever imagined.

A moment with Eve

By orsillam | 31st Oct 2011 | Filed under Uncategorised

Thought of the day: A loving relationship is one in which the loves one is free to be himself – Leo F. Buscaglia

Genesis 2:19-4:26

” The Lord God said, ‘ it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’” (Genesis 2:18)

Eve has always struck me a bit as a mysterious woman. She was the first female ever to walk on earth.  That must have been amazing. We all know that Eve is also the mother of the human race, but that is not all. Eve had a special relationship with God. Although she was made form the rib of Adam, she was a unique creation by God and also shared His breath.

The fact that she shared a rib with Adam and that she was created second doesn’t mean that she was less worthy than Adam. Eve had co-resposibility with Adam to take care of God’s creation, she also displayed certain characteristics of God.

Adam now also have someone off his kind. Someone he could share the garden with. God created Eve to be a companion for Adam yet she was different enough for Adam to also be in a relationship with Eve.

But God gave both Adam and Eve free will, but with the free will came responsibility.

God never planned for man to suffer, form the start He was our caretaker and gave man everything his heart desired. Because God loved His creation so much He protected them from the tree of knowledge. The tree that carried the fruit of envy, jealousy , hatred and all the bad things that we as humans carried around with us today. It is because of jealousy that Satan approached the woman and offered he the fruit. He knew that the minute Eve eats from the tree there will be a separation between God and His creation.

God did not force Adam and Eve to choose Him. He gave them free will. The same will that you and I have today. We can choose to obey God and live the life he intended for us.

So many people blame God for the bad things in their lives, forgetting that they made those choices  all on their own. The same thing Eve did when Satan visited her in the Garden. She did not consult God about the matter. She was naive and impulsive , the promise to be like God was so tempting that she did not think twice. She believed the serpent and ate the fruit.

So often we make decisions without God, and when it backfires we are quick to blame God for our bad choices. God never wish anything bad for His children. We are not little robots. We are people with freedom to choose for or against our Creator.

I want to ask today, to we serve God because we really want to. Because we love him so much that we cannot do anything else but to serve and glorify his name in our lives, or do we serve Him because the thought of going to Hell scares us so much that we feel forced to love God.

God gave us a free will to serve and to love Him. There is no bigger love than the love that God has for His children. Allow God and his Spirit into your live today.

A walk with God

Thought for the day : ” for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son” – Jesus Christ

Galatians 5: 13

You my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature;

As christians we all have some sort of knowledge of God and his existence. Most of us come from christian homes were you had to go to church, because Mom and Dad are  Christians and they went  they went to church. They had to attend sunday school and naturally we had to go too. They taught us the importance of prayer, our way to talk to God.  We know the names of all the important figures in the bible. We are aware of Christ’s earthly life and the implications it had for us as his children.

I know my Bible but I never really had a personal relationship with God.  It is not that I haven’t tried. I do read my Bible, I prayed. But there is a big difference between praying and just talking. When I prayed I often experience an empty feeling almost like my words float into the air into emptiness. I knew that God was suppose to listen because that was what I was taught at a very young age, but I never really understood the concept of God the way He wanted me to.

For the first time in 22 years I truly understand. I suddenly became aware of a few things in my life, and in the life off people calling themselves Christians, that was in contrast with what the word of God was teaching us.  Small things that made me question myself;  “am I really a Christian?” The things that I do an say, can people see God in my life.  One guy said, Christian the word, literally means like Christ.  Do our lives really portrait that of Christ?

This is what I really want to discuss with you. And I sincerely hope that you will pray to God and ask Him to change your lives to honor Him.

After I realized that I was a Christian by name and not by action,I started asking God to strengthen me every day, and to help me to live a live that showed people that He is alive and active in my life. It was not easy but with the help of the Holy Spirit God opened my heart and my live to honor Him.

I recently attended a church service in Randburg.  The minister had the most wonderful message, but there was great contradiction in his words. He conveyed that sin is OK, we have to accept it and love it.

Let me explain.  His message was about love and how the church is so often to judge, which at times is true.  He said that Jesus accepted the people, the prostitutes, Saggeus and so many more, again true.  But what he forgot to add is that Jesus also told them not to sin anymore.  To go in peace and be free from their sin by leaving it behind.

He said that as Christians have to be like Christ,  accept and love everyone, butJesus never said that it is ok to do things that God hates. God hates Sin!! If God was ok with sin then why did Christ die on the Cross?

This is when I seriously started asking God to show me the right way. To use me as his instrument.  I reach out to you today to asked God to place the Holy Spirit in your lives and to change you to be a living, walking and talking Fisher of Men.

Breakfast with Adam

Thought for the day: In passing, also, I would like to say that the first time Adam had a chance he laid the blame on a woman. – Nancy Witcher Astor.

Genesis1:26-5:5

” The man said, ‘ The woman put here with me – she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it’ “

The story of Adam is told in Genesis. Adam was truly a remarkable person. He was created by God from the dust of the earth, and then God’s breath gave Adam life. This must have been incredible. Just imagine for a  moment you are in Adam’s shoes. It must be amazing knowing that you are the first person ever created. I also think it was extremely lonely, not having parents or siblings, or any family for that matter. That while all the Animals all had species of the same sort.

Adam had God, just think about this he knew God personally. Yet that was not enough for man he needed someone of his own kind. God made Eve as a companion for Adam. There was a very innocent  and honest relationship between them. God gave Adam complete freedom in the Garden of Eden, yet there was only one rule. He was not to eat from the tree of knowledge. I am very sure this would have been the first thing Adam told Eve. God also gave Adam responsibility, he had to tend and care for the animals and plants in the garden. It is safe to say that in modern terms Adam was the first Zoologist.

We can safely make the assumption that Eve knew when Satan approached her, that the tree of knowledge was off limits. What was Satan’s plan why was it so important for him to get Eve to disobey God? Satan was a glorious angel who rebelled against God, as a created creature Satan has limitations. Satan tempted Eve to disobey God.Temptation is Satan’s way to get man kind to give up on God and live a life without Him.

Satan approached Eve with the one thing he desired most, and that was to be like God, he told Eve that should she eat the fruit she will not die, but she will become like God. This must have been a very tempting offer , because she broke the one rule, God placed in the garden to protect His creation. Here was someone who had it all and yet it was not enough. She ate from the tree and offered Adam. Instead of resisting knowing that God said the tree was forbidden he fell for temptation. And so sin came into the world.

In that moment a small temptation had a large effect on God’s creation. Man was separated from God by his desire to act on his own. We so often give in on small temptations, yet the consequence is beyond what we imagined.

However God had a plan to reunite man and God, and throughout the bible we read and see how God’s plan is unfold. God gave His son to pay for the sins of man.

We must realize that temptation is not sin, giving in to that temptation, that is sin. We will be tempted by Satan in our lives it is giving in to those temptations that separates us from God. The great thing is throughout the love of Christ God forgive us.

Commitment: ESSENTIAL

By orsillam | 17th Oct 2011 | Filed under Uncategorised

Thought of the day: “ The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in” – Morrie Schwartz

Genesis 24: 58-60

So they called Rebekah and asked her , ” will you go with this man?” “I will go,” she said

if someone must come to you today and asked you to marry a complete stranger, someone you have never met or seen before, will you be willing to go? This is exactly what happened to Rebekah. Eliezer the servant of Abraham was sent to find Isaac a wife.  It was common courtesy to offer a stranger a drink, but it took extra character to also give water to the strangers camels. This characteristic of Rebekah court Eleizer attention, and he choose her to be Isaac wife. Rebekah did not hesitate to accept and she was immediately willing to become Issac’s wife.

I know this must be very strange, but is that not what marriage is al about. Two complete strangers sharing a life together. I know we court for for a while, then get engaged, and then sometimes after a year of planning eventially  get married. My mother always said marriage is like getting glasses suddenly you see a lot better.

This is very true, we so often hear of couples that were together for a long time and when they got married it was a very short time. I think it is because commitment is essential for a successful marriage.

Commitment means giving everything and being grateful for the love you receive in return. It takes three people to make a marriage work. God and husband and wife. If you invite God into your marriage and you are committed to God within your marriage the way you are to one another. Nothing will be to big to handle, to heavy to carry or to unbearable, then the small things that irritates you, like the wet towel on the floor will not be an issue anymore.

If you invite God into your marriage it will last forever.
