Most of us think that as grown ups we have all the wisdom in the world. We always tell our children that we know better and that we have been there and have done the things they are doing. That is why we know what is in their best interest. We normally don’t spent time wondering if they could teach us a thing or two, I mean what do they know anyway.

I made a great discovery today. We could learn from our children. I learnt a great lesson from my son. This made me realise what Jesus meant when he told his disciples that we must have faith like children, because children have no limits. They believe unconditionally when they are young. Matthew is almost two years old and there is nothing that he thinks he cannot do. He loves climbing onto things and he is always trying something new. To me it is the worst thing because I am so scared that he will get hurt. My husband and I constantly reprimand him about this, yet he carries on, not because he doesn’t listen but because according to him he believes unconditionally that he can do these things.

I think this is the type of belief that we should have in God. Instead of doubting our abilities we must trust that God will give us the necessary equipment we need to complete a task or face a challenge.

Matthew and I were having a swim and he saw me jumping into the water. He got onto the step and stretched out his hands and then jumped. He knew that I was going to catch him. There was no doubt in his mind. I did catch him. How many times are we getting ready to jump and then we don’t do it because we don’t trust that God will be there to catch us.

Maybe we should start having faith like little children and trust in God
