A change is as good as a holiday

Nothing is permanent except change - Herodotus
Have you ever felt that you are caught in a trap and yet you are scared of what may happen when you try to break free? I think we all feel this way sometimes in our lives. We are so used to the things we have and the things we do. The thought of changing any of the familiar makes us feel trapped inside. Sometimes you know that if you dont rescue yourself from your current situation it might mean your downfall, and yet we don’t do a thing about it.
Fear is our greatest enemy. Fear is what holds us back and keeps us in our little box. We all grew up in a certain way and with different morals and standards. We get so upset with people if they differ from us because we are set and moulded in our ways. It is this fear that blinds us to opportunities passing by that will expand us outside our boxes. How many times have you found the perfect opportunity but because of the unknown involved you allowed it to pass you by? I think all of us has done it in one way or the other.
It is the perfect job for me but I cannot take it because what if things don’t work out then I lose everything I have. I cannot pitch my idea to the boss because what happens if he does not like it or me and he fires me. I cannot start my own business because what if it does not work then I lose everything? and the list carries on and on.
We are so scared of change and of the unfimiliar that we sometimes hinder ourself from living to our full potential. We often ask ourselves “what is my purpose here on earth, or what is God’s intention for me here on earth” and often it seems like we cannot find the answer to these questions. Once we realise that we are here on earth to live to our full potential as God intended it to be change is not scary anymore.
Even God changes. He changes us every day to become more and more like Him. Are we scared to change because we don’t trust God enough?
I would like to tell you a little story you might have heard before but it makes perfect sense if you think about it. One day there were great floods and a young man very faithful to God found himself stuck on the roof of his house. He closed his eyes and prayed to God: ” Dear Father please save me from these floods”. A little while later a man came past on a motorboat and offered to take the young man to safety. The young man replied “No thank you God will keep me safe”. The man left. Not long after that a rescue helicopter saw the young man on the roof and swept down to help him. He refused to get into the helicopter, his words were that God will save me. The young man drowned. When he found himself in Heaven he was very upset and he asked God “How can you let me drown? I believed in You and yet now I am dead”. God answered the angry young man with these words ” My child twice I sent help to save you and both times you declined”
Doesn’t this make you think. How many times did God not send opportunities our way, but because we are scared of change we just declined it. God works in different ways. He uses people and opportunities to give us answers to our questions. Sometimes we do not get what we want and things just feel like it is not working out because there is something better and greater waiting for us at the end of the tunnel. We must just be willing to trust God and take a chance.
Change is good for the soul.
