Action speaks louder than words

I learnt a very important lesson at golf today. I am taking golf lessons ones a week to help me with my game, but for the past few days every time I go practice I make a mess of it. Not wanting to admit to anyone that I was doing anything wrong I eventually asked my coach to take a look at my swing.
I lined up, made sure my posture was correct, that my grip was aligned, that my distance from the ball was perfect and wham just like a pro I hit the ball - only my ball rolled over the grass. I heard my coach laugh. I was feeling pretty stupid. “You speak the language but you don’t do the walk” is what he said to me, you must feel the actions in your body and see the picture in your mind, now try again and hit with your soul”. I tried again and there a perfect shot, just because I could feel the action in my body. All my muscles worked together to create that perfect shot.
How many times don’t we say something but when we look, our actions are the total opposite of what we’re doing. How many times do we as parents say, “I am not going to let the kids get to me today?” or “I am not going to get angry,” and the next minute we’re ranting and raving at them because they did something we didn’t approve of.
How many of our actions contradict our words. How many times do we say one thing and do something else? How many of us use these words “Don’t do what I do, do as I say”.
How can we expect someone to do what we tell them if we don’t set the example? We tell our children not to fight with one another, but we’re forever arguing with our spouses.
We must learn to talk the walk.
So many of us tell people on a daily basis that we are Christians but our actions don’t display our belief in God. I have always learnt that people remember the things you do not the things you say.
I have on occasion told my 2 year old niece not to play with the electric sockets. I always tell her that she will get hurt. Then one day she was doing it again and I shouted at her. I saw the little tears in her eyes as she turned and looked at me and uttered the words, “but I saw you put stuff in there”
I picked her up and held her tight. She was only doing what she saw me doing.
We must life our lives by example.
We are judged by our actions.
